Create Speed with Dedication and LOTS of Gorilla Glue

My dad and I set out to break the world speed record for an Electric Styrofoam Radio Controlled Airplane. Once we passed the 100 mph mark, strength became a major issue. The glues available at the hobby store were not up to the task. Most of the stronger glues that we tested, either melted Styrofoam, or didn’t adhere one of the many components that we were using for strengthening very thin Styrofoam parts.
Our first experience with Gorilla glue was the Dries White polyurethane. We were adding carbon fiber rods to very thin Styrofoam wings in hopes of making them strong enough to withstand 100+ Mph stresses. The amazing glue not only adhered to both mediums, but actually hardened and strengthened the Styrofoam near the glue sight! Soon we found uses for other Gorilla Glue products. We found that painting Gorilla Super Glue on soft plastic parts would make them ridged without becoming brittle. The original Gorilla Glue could bond the wooden motor mount to the plastic body of the plane without the use of screws or any other kind of fastener.

We had several flight structural failures before trying Gorilla Glue. They all ended the same way.

The powerful engine that was required for these high speeds literally pulled this airplane apart in mid air. We were able to solve this problem and more, thanks to Gorilla Glue, it’s wonderful properties and it's incredible strength. Many tries, and a lot of Gorilla Glue later, we’ve culminated with the SF8. It’s fast, it’s strong and it’s a blast to fly.We refined this scratch built plane for over a years time. We would like to thank Gorilla Glue for its contribution to this beautiful, fast and strong airplane

Restoring Telephone Poles

My company was delivering concrete to a new house on Mount Pisgah in Cripple Creek, Colorado. One of the trucks caught a telephone line and broke the pole. We already had a concrete pump truck and another mixer up the hill, so we had to figure something out. Fortunately, there was a Hardware Store/Lumber Yard about a half mile down the road, so I headed that way. I still wasn't quite sure what we were going to do, but we had to do something quick, because it was late afternoon. When I got to the store I got 2 twelve foot 2 X 4s. I need something to attach the base to the pole, and since I have rolls of Gorilla Tape in my home garage and motor home, I just knew it would work. Fortunately, they had a roll of the new Gorilla Tough & Wide Tape, so I bought it. I went back up the mountain to the broken pole, and, needless to say, my Gorilla Tape idea was not met with a very warm reception.

We left the wire hooked to the truck, pulled the pole over to the base, Gorilla Taped it, and then braced it with one of the 2 X 4s. We unhooked the line from the truck, pulled him away, and the rest is history. We had to go back to the site recently, and, two weeks later, and the pole hadn't been repaired. It looked just as it did when we left it, even with temperatures in the high 80s and rain nearly every day. Thank you!!

Black Bear Tough

We live in the foothills of Mount Hood just nine miles from Government Camp in Oregon. As expected, we have always had forest animals like deer, elk, raccoons, skunks, coyotes, and even an occasional black bear passing through our property.

I have built several feeders for the smaller animals like squirrels and birds and I have always used Gorilla Glue for these projects to hold up in the outdoor environment.

You can imagine our surprise when my wife and I looked out one day and saw this young black bear standing on the feeder. The feeder has held tough and other than a few claw marks, this feeder is as strong as the day I built it, thanks to Gorilla Glue.

Gorilla Goes Fishing

I wanted to say that Gorilla Glue saved me a bunch of money and time spent!  I'm not sure how it happened but I was on vacation and the transducer for my graph on the back of my boat broke off.   There wasn't a shop that had a replacement transducer, buying a new graph wasn't in my budget, and musky fishing without a graph is impossible. I took off the transducer, and it had broken at a section that was less than half an inch.  I applied some Gorilla Glue, let it set for a couple hours and the darn thing held for the entire week! The transducer was in the water for the whole week. My boat goes about 35mph so that water pressure was applying directly to the transducer. I am absolutely amazed that it held. Gorilla Glue never disappoints!  Musky fishing without a graph would have been next to impossible, not to mention just dangerous driving on that lake. Excellent product.

Gorilla Tape Goes Swimming

I love your Gorilla Tape! I live on Lake Martin in Alabama. While working on the trolling motor of my fishing boat, I needed to tape two wires together. I could not find my electrical tape, so I decided to try the Gorilla Tape. Sitting on the front of the boat, I tore a piece of tape off to use for the wires and decided that I should put the roll of tape on the floating dock. When I tossed the tape on the dock, it, of course, landed on the edge and went directly into 12 feet of water. I retrieved the tape 7 months later when the lake went down. To my surprise, other than the cardboard center being a little flimsy the tape worked great after all that time being under water. Thought you would like to hear a positive comment about your products. Thanks for making a great product!

Even an Exploded Radiator is No Match

Last weekend, while on the trail at the Nova Scotia Jeep Club Jamboree, my Jeep radiator exploded, resulting in a 10" crack at the top. I used 3 strips of your tape and some zip ties to hold it so I could refill it with water. Not only did I made it out of the woods, but I drove it 50 km back to base camp. I only added a liter of water twice. Thanks for an amazing product.

Gorilla Tape protects underwater receivers

I just returned from a dive trip that went out to Cocos Island, located off the Costa Rican Pacific Coast. This expedition was offered by a non-profit organization that is conducting shark research.

The research conducted on this trip involved studying shark behavior by anchoring receivers to the ocean floor at several shark cleaning locations and then actually tagging hammerhead sharks with transmitters. The idea is to pick up the transmitter signals from the tagged sharks when they are in the area of the receivers. On this trip we also recovered receivers, downloaded data, and changed out the batteries since they had been under water 6-10 months between servicing.

The reason I am writing is because they use Gorilla Tape to protect the receivers from barnacle build up. They wrap the receivers in tape so the barnacles grow on the tape and not the body of the receiver, insuring that the data access port remains clean and they can easily open the unit up.

This picture shows someone unwrapping the tape from the receivers that had been underwater for eight months! I was amazed the tape held. I wanted you all to know about this application and organization and how Gorilla Tape is helping them out. Thanks

Ford  model T 1924 - 2.5 years project with a lot of love and Gorilla Glue

Two years ago I finished building a 1924 Ford Model T with a Depot Hack body (i.e. a station wagon). It took two and a half years to complete the project.

I researched what type of glue I wanted to use for the wood joints and decided to try Gorilla Glue. Mortise and tenon joints were used throughout the body. Some biscuit and lap joints were also used. The glue worked very well on all the joints.

I liked how nice and easy it was to sand and remove the glue once the joints dried. It didn't chip out any of the wood unlike other glues.  This is the third season of driving it and all the joints look good yet. It's been in the rain a few times so the water hasn't affected the joints. It's a great product and I tell other people about it.

Placing at the Science Fair with a little help from Gorilla Tape

This past spring my son, Perry Winer, won 3rd place at the 5th grade science fair with his presentation "What Gives?". In his experiment, he tested the strength of 3 types of tape: packing tape, duct tape & Gorilla Tape. He taped the different types at equal lengths along the sides of a 5gal bucket. Then he slowly added sand 1 lb at a time. He repeated this process 3 times per type and recorded his results. As you can probably assume, they were greatly in Gorilla Tape's favor. The exhibit was a favorite amongst fathers at the science fair. Of course, my husband was nearby informing everyone that Gorilla products could be purchased at the local hardware store that he manages. Anyway, I just thought I would share that story with you, and let you know how your tape "measured" up at the West Holt Public School's 5th grade science fair.

Gorilla Tape Saves the Sailing Trip

There were three generations of us sailing out to the Beaver Island, Michigan archipelago from the mainland. This was to be my grandfather's first sailing trip since he had owned his own sailboat and sailed the archipelago for many years- nothing was going to get in our way. We towed a twenty year old inflatable dinghy with us. During our first night, we were putting back from an island to the boat when all of our feet were swamped; the bottom of the dinghy had ripped out. The next morning, we tried to find an old and unused dinghy at a local marina that we could buy cheaply. When none were found, we decided to try and repair it ourselves. We applied glue which normally would take 24hrs to set, but knew over the length of the trip we'd never get it sealed right. After buying a roll of Gorilla Tape, we dried out the dinghy and taped every possible seam we could, inside and out. The Gorilla Tape performed perfectly, affording us the ability to explore the surrounding islands for five more nights as well as the trip back to the mainland of Michigan. Thank you for living up to your expectations and allowing us to complete this journey with our grandfather.

Gorilla Tape tops it off

Gorilla Tape has replaced my sunroof! I went and Got Gorilla Tape and made 2 layers, one on the top and one inside to cover the sticky side, and 3 strips on the top for extra hodl. The tape saved me from having to buy a new sunroof! It has been through a tough test, between this winter and all the rain. It doesn't leak and it hasn't even peeled off. I LOVE GORILLA TAPE!
